presentation for the school board

This year Jess has been working towards her student goals that she set early in the year with her parents and teacher. One area she has been encouraged to develop is her natural leadership skills, so she has been looking for leadership opportunities. She applied and was selected for the Star Student Leadership Program, and has had meetings at school during some recesses throughout the year.

Tonight, she was given the opportunity to represent her school by making a presentation in front of the WLWV school district board meeting promoting her school's Wellness program, which integrates all aspects of well-being; physical, mental, emotional, and social. The kids introduced their project and then showed the video that they took part in filming at school. Jess was in the video acting out some scenes with her classmates and was quite animated on camera.

Before her presentation, the principal, vice principal, PE teacher, and her 5th grade teacher were there to brief her, and told her that she would be filmed for the local television channel, but that didn't affect her confidence. She did great and it was a fun growth experience for her. We are very proud of her, and appreciate her enthusiasm in taking on speaking roles or being in the spotlight, which most people avoid like the plague. Way to be, Jess!
