The kids did Wilsonville's Kids Fun Run on Saturday, July 30. Jess has done this race 3x, and now Catherine and Andrew have done it twice. They enjoy running and have good friends from Tualatin that they get to do this event with, so that makes it special for them.
Our kids all finished among the first runners in their heats and were fun to watch run {I think Jess was the 3rd girl in her heat, and Andrew was 3rd in his}. Jess ran 3 laps, Andrew 2, and Catie 1. Andrew's friend, Tyler, who has been running races for a few years now, has beat Andrew two years in a row. Last year, Tyler passed Andrew right before the finish line and Andrew, who sprinted the first lap, learned that he needed to pace. Andrew took second last year. So, this year, he did pace himself in the beginning and passed up the fast starters by the second lap. Catherine, who is a really fast runner as we saw last year, was a little embarassed with the crowd watching this time, so she started off slower, middle-of-the-pack, just jogging with a smile on her face. By the end, she had sped up and finished strong. But, it was a good experience and important for them to continue to love to run and learn about it.
